The new CULTURES residential building constructed by EPIKYKLOS, in an architectural study by A2 Architects, aims to promote art and culture in the city.
SO-IL lecture in Athens
As an ongoing creative partner, EPIKYKLOS supported the event organized by the contemporary architecture organisation DOMa, within the framework of the actions of the “EPIKYKLOS Academy of Culture”.
Continuing its series of lectures by distinguished architects, the contemporary architecture organisation DOMa presented Florian Idenburg, co-founder of the New York office SO-IL with Jing Liu, in a lecture held on May 17 in the atrium of the Benaki Museum.
SO-IL seek to create environments that are open and outward-looking, methodically attuned to societal and climate issues. Their works promote user communication and the creation of communities within a global context that, under the influence of digital media, is becoming increasingly self-referential and introverted.
With a series of projects from three continents, covering various uses, scales of size and construction techniques, Florian Idenburg presented SO-IL’s unique approach to the field of architecture as it has evolved over the fifteen years since their founding.
The lecture was held in the context of the release of the new issue of DOMa magazine, which presents projects by Label architecture, Mary Duggan Architects, RAUM, Dyvik Kahlen Architects and Interboro Partners.
Florian Idenburg’s speech was followed by a discussion with Ilias Papageorgiou, founder of Pila Studio, who was a partner in SO-IL from 2013 to 2018.
At the end of the event, the special issue of DOMa dedicated to one of the works presented by Florian Idenburg, was given out to attendees.
