Shedia Home : a "home" for the world opens its doors
“A raft needed to cross a mighty river should be abandoned once you reach the shore, because it does not need to be carried over anyone’s head” -Gauntana Buddha
Situated in the city center of Athens, on the corner of Kolokotroni and Nikiou Street, this neoclassical building is where Shedia finds its new home and destination. A historic 1870 building, where painter and Tsarouhis’ friend Eleni Stathopoulou lived, has been renovated and rearranged to host the visionary project of Chris Alefantis, founder of Shedia street magazine. The Shedia Art shop and the cafe-bar-restaurant are located on the ground floor and connect to the underground kitchen. The attic and first floor comprise the shop workshops, as well as the magazine and management offices. This project of kindness and charity has a distinct philosophy: to help those in need through daily struggles, not losing sight of the fundamental values of society.
We contributed to the project with its implementation and construction on favorable terms respecting the charitable character of the organization. Vassilios Bartzokas’s Design Ambassador studio brought together a team of architects, engineers and suppliers who offered their services voluntarily for the project’s implementation and management. The architectural design of the ground floor area was developed by Dimitrios Potiropoulos and Liana Nella Potiroloulos of Potiropoulos+Partners, inspired by the interplay between old and new. The personal involvement of our CEO, Iosif Arabatzis, contributed to the time and cost-efficiency of the project. We worked as a strong team in order for Shedia Home to become a center of solidarity and social innovation envisioning a better society, as from now on its activities will have a new starting point.
