The awarded projects:

European Centre of Architecture, Art and Design: The restoration of a “damaged” landmark building, in an architectural study by Anastasis Bachas, co-edited by Ioannis Karalias.

The 1895 three-story neoclassical building in the historical centre of Athens was renovated with great respect to each of its aspects, in order for it to house the European Centre of Architecture and Design.
Having been “damaged” by the way it was formerly handled, EPIKYKLOS, with the study of architect Anastasios Bachas and the co-editing of internationally renowned architect, visual artist and President of the European Centre, Ioannis Karalias, approached the project with particular care in order to restore the interior to its original form with minimal intervention in the building shell.
Countless difficulties and technical issues were required to be dealt with. However, each of them constituted a part of the architectural design and a key challenge for the accomplishment of the entire project.

The award was received by (from left to right): Iosif Arambatzis – CEO of EPIKYKLOS, Konstantina Geladaki – Public Relations / Event Manager of The European Centre For Architecture Art Design and Urban Studies, Anastasis

Penthouse on Solonos Street: The purity of the architectural solution, in an architectural study by Villy Attart

The penthouse of the typical 1950s Athenian apartment building on Solonos Street has been inhabited by people of letters and artists with special requirements, having undergone multiple alterations.

The circular passage in the apartment that led to closed spaces-rooms, through a narrow corridor, was the main element that the architectural proposal sought to demolish.

Positioned on the north-south axis, overlooking Lycabettus and the Acropolis, it was organized right from the start in such a way that the new living space of the now four-member family would be open, fluid, functional, with unobstructed views on the two important landmarks of the city from different points, whilst maintaining the urban character of the old Athenian apartment building.

The award was received by (from left to right): Erica Karianaki – Marketing & communication manager of
EPIKYKLOS, Villy Attart – Architect, Andriani Panou Papatheodorou – Deputy Managing Director of EPIKYKLOS.

The project received the Gold award at the BOUSSIAS 2023 Interiors Awards, in the category: Completed Projects / Residential Interior / Apartment (apartment in an urban centre or countryside)

Frame: Apartment with a framed view of the Old Parliament House of Athens, in an architectural study conducted by Valia Panagiotou

The Frame apartment in the centre of Athens, designed by Valia Panagiotou and built by EPIKYKLOS, was transformed from an office space into a fully functional residence, acquiring its own new identity. The layout and aesthetics of the space were redefined with respect to the elements of the old days and the panoramic orientation of the property towards the Old Parliament of Athens. The main axis was the creation of an ephemeral base for a new couple, with the ability to offer a holistic experience of the urban landscape through the materials and amenities of a flexible and multifunctional space. The special constructions, the wood, the preservation of the existing classical elements and the earthy and warm-toned colour palette ultimately compose the character and aesthetics of the project.

Complete renovation of a four-storey detached house in Palaia Penteli, in an architectural study by Elena Krini.

This EPIKYKLOS project, in a study by Elena Krini, involves the complete redesign both internally and of the surrounding area of a four-storey detached house in Palaia Penteli, with the purpose of meeting the modern residential needs of a family of four.

The biggest issue of the previous state, which the new proposal tried to overcome, was the compartmentalized plan of the ground floor and the first floor with narrow corridors that fragmented the space and limited the light. The new layout of the spaces, the materials and colours, the hidden lighting, and interventions in the surrounding space blend in harmoniously, offering the owners a new living experience.
