On Friday, December 6, we had the honor of participating in an event of major importance for the architectural sector, but also for all of us at EPIKYKLOS.
A typical urban 1960's apartment, in 2019
EPIKYKLOS is offering a newly renovated apartment at 78 Aristotelous Street, Athens, for sale.
A typical 1960’s apartment in the heart of Athens has been renovated following the needs of the present, all the while protecting the authenticity and character of the past. Spanning a total of 52m2, the apartment is located on the fifth floor of a ‘polykatoikia’ apartment building and comprises a spacious living room with a dining area, a kitchen, a large bedroom with a walk-in closet and bathroom. Thanks to its position, it enjoys sunlight throughout the day with a 7m2 veranda.
The area in which the apartment is situated was the heart of Athenian middle-class life in the 1960’s, so the design’s main goal was to preserve the property’s characteristics and identity.
For some parts the initial materials, such as the ‘fishbone’-style oak solid-wood floor in the living room and bedroom were preserved, whereas others were replaced with new floors of the same wood. The entrance, kitchen and bathroom were lined with mosaic-style tiles, popular in the 1960’s.
The old and the new merge through minimal lines and warm materials, such as the wood found in the kitchen and the walk-in closet — perfectly matched with the cool colors in the lobby and the marble and metal in the bathroom, creating overall a harmonious result. The fully-equipped kitchen has the supply in place for an autonomous gas boiler, while high-quality, sophisticated materials have been used, always in tune with the spatial design in order to create a fully functional residence.
