Renovation of a 50’s apartment in Kolonaki

Modern living experience, timeless urban style

Completion: September 02, 2024
Project Type: Renovation, 150 sq.m
Architects: Plaini & Karahalios

EPIKYKLOS collaborated with Plaini and Karahalios Architects in the renovation of a 1958 apartment in Kolonaki, designed by the acclaimed Greek architect Renos Koutsouris. Respecting the property’s legacy, the architectural design maintains its structure and style while introducing a new aesthetic and functional balance between main and auxiliary spaces, previously arranged according to the practices of the ’50s.

With remarkable dedication, our construction teams replaced old and installed new materials (plaster decorations, wooden structures, marble surfaces) and did all the necessary renovations and adjustments in the water supply and heating infrastructures. Everything was done with utmost respect for the existing elements, such as the oak floors, which had to remain intact. Despite pressing deadlines and the challenges of carrying out several demanding construction tasks in a high-traffic site in Central Athens, the project was delivered on time without deviating from the architects’ original vision.

Eventually, the fundamental architectural objective was fulfilled as the apartment’s timeless nature was enhanced by maintaining the original spaces’ urban style while updating their functional hierarchy. That way, every element, old and new, contributes to the coexistence of a modern living situation and the memory of a pre-existing shell.
