Standing behind its founding goal to contribute to a better future for our cities, EPIKYKLOS places particular emphasis on educating future generations of architects and builders in the use of technical solutions and construction practices that prioritize the durability, functionality, and sustainability of the built environment.

As part of the EPIKYKLOS “Cultural Academy” educational actions, we often provide students with access to projects in development so they can have a close look at how we actually respond to various construction challenges.
This is the 2nd year we collaborate with the Metropolitan College, inviting the students of the BArch (Hons) Architecture program for a tour of the F7 Serviced Apartments construction site in Piraeus—a GRECA Developments project undergoing a full reconstruction by EPIKYKLOS.

The visit concluded in two days, as part of the Architectural Technology course. On Tuesday, November 11, we welcomed the 2nd and 3rd-year architects, while on Wednesday, November 12, the 1st-year hopefuls came to the project’s site.

Elena Koutsopoulou, the project’s architect, and Fotis Kakaroumpas, civil engineer and EPIKYKLOS construction supervisor, welcomed both student groups and filled them in on the project.

The common thread of this year’s tour and discussions was the building and its reuse: how we approach the reconstruction and repurposing of an existing, worn-out building. With the support of our engineers, the students could closely examine crucial issues regarding construction details, structural systems, and various insulation methods, and clarify essential elements of their architectural training.

Meanwhile, they learned about basic construction site matters, such as workplace security and hygiene. During both visits, everyone complied with the appropriate safety measures (helmets, vests, etc.).

These two days highlighted once again how important it is to learn through real-life experiences and how education gains real value when theory turns into action. We are pleased with our contribution to empowering some of tomorrow’s architects, something we’ll keep doing with the same zest through the EPIKYKLOS “Cultural Academy.”
